Gymnastics Canada is seeking a Team Physician to provide medical support to the members of the Canadian Team to the 2023 World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Canadian team will consist of approximately 700 intermediate to advanced level gymnasts and support team members. The gymnasts are ages 10 to 80 years, and will be performing in a variety of group routines in a performance-based, but non-competitive environment.

The World Gymnaestrada is a large international event comprising over 30,000 participants from over 40 countries. It is held every 4 years and focuses on showcasing a festival of demonstration gymnastics. All forms of gymnastics are included, as well as dance and related activities. It is an enjoyable Sport for Life/Active for Life opportunity that attracts participants from diverse backgrounds.

The Team physician will work with the Gymnastics Canada management team that includes a physiotherapist. The team physician will have daily office hours within the team accommodations and may have scheduled hours within the host medical care unit. The physician will provide care to the team members for injury and illness situations and will have access to additional services through the host medical unit.

Main Duties
• Responsible for the overall heath, care, and well-being of all Team Canada participants.
• Duties will include responding to field of play/training injuries, assessment and treatment of injuries and illness, referral for additional treatment/care, and prescription of medication (as per the laws of the country hosting the event).
• Aid in ensuring team medical supplies is stocked and diagnostic equipment is in working order.

Requirements
• Hold a valid Police Check, within 12 months of the date of the event.
• Hold a valid Passport and ability to travel internationally.
• Licensed to practice general medicine in Canada without restrictions.
• Membership-in-good-standing of the Canadian Medical Protective Association with coverage for sport medicine, or evidence of equivalent professional malpractice insurance with a private carrier.
• Diploma in Sport Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM), or an equivalent certification from another country if trained outside of Canada.
• Experience providing field care services to a sport organization and/or event.
• Valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
• Significant experience within the Canadian sport system.
• Experience as a medical officer for a Canadian National Sport Organization or other Canadian multi-sport organization.
• Understanding of national and international medical services and programs is an asset.

This is a volunteer position. Gymnastics Canada will provide the following:
– Roundtrip airfare (place of residence to and from Amsterdam)
– Hotel accommodations in shared double room (July 28 – August 6, exact dates TBD)
– Participant Card Package (breakfast, lunch, dinner for all days, uniform kit, airport transport from/to Amsterdam, insurance, PAGU/ FIG Gala national evening ticket)
