In order to assist new investigators in developing their research in Sport Medicine, one $15,000 award will be restricted to “new” researchers. No existing or matching funds are required and there is no restriction of the topic of the research other than that it must have direct relevance to Sport Medicine. To be eligible to apply for this grant, investigators must meet the following criteria:
- No existing or matching funds are required.
- Topic of the research must have direct relevance to Sport Medicine.
- The principal investigator must be a CASEM member in good standing (for a minimum of 1 year prior to application) and be an integral part of the development and administration of the research project.
- Have 5 or less years of independent research experience and/or funding. For example, MDs who have recently completed their residency, fellowship, or graduate degree or MDs who have been in practice for some time, but would like to start a research focus. Applicants cannot be currently in training as a medical school student, resident or fellow. Funding received as a graduate student or during post-graduate medical training while under the supervision of a senior investigator are not considered to be independent research experience.
- Not have received more than 2 research grants in the past 5 years (as a principal investigator or co-investigator).
